Dont ask dont tell
I think that all of this stuff is just a bunch of BS. Who ever has the toughness and courage to enter the military should be able to no matter what status you are. They are willing to support our country!! If you are gay, most likely you are a softer person but if you do have the mental ability to help our country out then you should be able too. The way our society is though will probably make gays uncomfortable in the army. Soldiers might not agree with the gay being on their squad but they will when he saves one or many of their lives!

Multigenre component
I might just do a power point and explain the strengths of my topic and i might add a nice video with some positive info. Since I dont have any times or events and timeline will not be used. So im probably going to stick with the basic powerpoint and video. i might grab some of my interviewers and make a live video of how school sports are important from the info i collected.

My social action project progress
I am still figuring out who I will interview. I might not be able to interview my high school coaches because I will not be heading home before November 10th. I think I will stick to my friends and family that have major sport back rounds and that have played school sports. I actually like the idea with interviewing friends because their high school experience is more fresh and up to date. I will also try to mix up where my friends came from to get different perspectives. Some people might have had better experiences because they lived in a better town or a town that loved school sports. I still might plan on talking to the ISU baseball coach but since this is a D1 school im not sure if he will have time because im sure D1 schools practice more often. He will also be busy with alot more then other coaches that coach at a lower level.
Job Description
The jobs i reviewed were a PE teacher and a Athletic Coach. These two jobs interest me alot because they have to do with my major. I also love sports and both of these have to deal with sports. Back in my hometown i used to umpire little league and help out little leaguers with baseball. I really enjoyed doing this and PE and Atheletic coaching relate to my help with these kids.

Major/Job Paragraph 10/26/10
Some jobs Ive seen on the website for physical education were PE teacher, coaching, and trainers. Ive also seen some interesting ones like a proffesional sport scout which caught my eye because this seems like a fun career to thrive for. I also like the coaching jobs which will most likely be my top goal. I would want to because a PE teacher and let that lead to a baseball coach because many people who are coaches are also gym teachers.
Ed Equality
1. There is no way a blind person can be treated normally which is why Sally thinks this is problematic. Sally wants people to accommodate with her blindness. She wants the help and attention to get her through her days with her disability. Blind people will not use the same methods to complete work.
2. To start off her tone was positive talking about how her teachers would help her. She sounded very happy and enthusiastic in those paragraphs. She then talks about the negative side. She feels this way because it is really frustrating seeing how society is shaping up. She explains how people used to be more helpful and now just worried bout them selves.
3. The early paragraphs talk about results from certain studies and it shows that minorities are placed in these classes twice as much as white people. They also talk about how many minorities come from bad families which don't allow them to gain any knowledge at all. Some students cant even read not because they are dumb but because their family back round.
4. The ADA and IDEA made great changes to Americans because now this is a documented law. People will now look at is as a more important issue if it was acknowledged to become a law and it has.

Shitty First Drafts
I liked this article because she explains a nice way in getting out good information and how to create drafts to create better papers. She says that the first draft is a down draft, just used to get all the thoughts out and down on paper. She uses this to find ideas and leads she likes to create a good paper. She explains that most writers dont just sit down and start writing nice papers, you have to use drafts and jot down any ideas with your shitty first draft. Its unique to me that she has so much problems with confidence and such every review she writes.

Finding your own voice
I think voice in writing is like your own special way of writing and making your own paper interesting. Some writers have a more funny or chill style of writing and others have a highly educated way of writing with all of these big words and such. Your voice will be your own opinion on certain issues and how you will elaborate on that. Discovering your own voice is just following your opinions and writing in a style that is comfortable to you.
Lamott quote means that don't just follow everyone's opinion or ways of writing. Open up and reveal your opinions and your ways of writing because you can create something outstanding that no one revealed before.

Asian Lesbian
A visible minority is like major groups of minorities like African Americans and Hispanics. Invisible minority means that they are a group of minorities with a lesser amount of people.
Sticking to your own kind means to basically stick to your own kind. If you are African American dont be ashamed or if you are white dont set your standards too high. Believe in your self for who you are.
She is a Asian and is a lesbian and she feels that she doesnt fit in because she is the only Asian in the school and she is a lesbian, getting over this problem will take courage and self esteem.
No, I rarely even acknoledge my ethnicity and such because I look at my self as being American, I was born here so I'm an American.

Sexism
A good example is when you are hanging out with friends and you always hear comments on how sexy this girl was, or how big this girls butt is. This happens all the time in society and sometimes the girl hears, especially when your calling her ugly. Some guys get jealous of other guys and girls and the words start flying that way. People always judge gay and lesbian people too just by looking at them or hearing them talk. You can overcome this by not talking about these things with your girl friends or when they are around. I think talking about girls with all your guy friends is fine because its all guy talk. The judging of gay and lesbian people pops up with my friends occasionally and to stop that you just cant judge people on what they like.

American Dream
The authors dream was to become president of the United States. The authors family was a really poor family from Winston-Salem. His town revolved around tobacco products. His family was extremely racist as his uncles and cousins were in the KKK. He lived in the south and explained how southerners are judged because of their style and such. He was also gay so he went through a lot of social impact because of that.
His quote says some people aren't yet really free to reach certain goals because of aspects that hold them down. Everyone should be able to have a chance at being president if they work hard enough. Being rich and white shouldn't give anyone a advantage to becoming president. Just because you are poor and gay doesn't mean your are not a "real" American. This society is so diverse that when judging people their shouldn't be any standards because we are all Americans and should have a fair chance to achieve anything in life.

Defining Racism
1. I tend to have a small prejudice, when I see black people fishing I automatically assume they are fishing for catfish. I also think all black people are fast.
2. I think I am advantaged.
3. I really cant do much myself, we all as a whole have to make better judgments about other people. This country is so diverse that this problem will never get resolved.
4. She defines it as being greatly prejudice and talks about advantages of white people alot; white guilt.

What did I gain 9/21/10
This activity allowed me to breakdown certain aspects of the entire article. It made me see what they were trying to find out. It showed me how to find out what they will do, who will do it, the results of what they did. This will help me break down my own articles for my research paper.

Summary
In this paragraph they talk about the distinction between "serious music" and "popular music". It talks about how serious music transcends social forces and pop music is worthless because it is determined by the creator. Popular music is more socially active then serious music. Analyizing these types will result in different results.

Narrative on Social Diversity and Multiculturalism
What is social diversity? Social Diversity is the different factors that change our society. Factors such as religion, race, age, skin color, style, etc. It's is all the different factors that shape our society. Multiculturalism is how we accept and promote each culture in society. How we accept the Mexican culture mixed with other cultures in society. It is how some people celebrate Cinco De Mayo and others treat May 5th as another day. Social Diversity is really important to me because it keeps the world exciting. I have a lot of "lived experiences" that have bin important parts of my diverse life which made my life more exciting.
I think everyone in society shapes the social diversity in society because everyone is different. Everyone throws in their own little part to create a diverse society. A really important part of diversity for me was my class and the neighborhood I lived in. I am in the middle class and I totally enjoy it. For the most part the neighborhood you live in shows what class you are in. I like the style all my friends had living in my town. High school also helped me understand tons of diverse issues in society. I walked in and was suddenly surrounded by tons of different styles and tons of different types of people with different attitudes. It taught me to accept other kinds of styles and not judge people entirely if they have a different style then you. One of my best friends turned into a "Guido" but I still respect him and I'm still best friends with him. Since my high school was not a great school which had lots of gang affiliation and fights I had to learn what to do and what not to do. It is safe to say that my high school prepared me just a little more for the real world.
Since I decided to change my major from journalism to PE, I am interested in child obesity or some health issues. I am not sure if this is a social justice issue but it will affiliate with my major immensely. To me this is an important topic because it will be linked with my major. Children Obesity will also eventually turn into a bigger and bigger problem with the advancement in technology. Kids will be stuck on the games instead of going out. I can talk about how schools require students to have a PE class. I can also observe how many students are actually forced to be involved in gym class. I think many schools have PE class but many don't watch and observe there students during class. Soon enough when Playstation 10 comes out PE will be the only workout these kids will get daily!

Exercise 2
"Most of us, I think, can swing both ways in our feelings towards pigeons, an ambivalence that doesn't seem to apply to other "pests" because pigeons occupy an odd category of creatures that we can both love and hate, animals that are untidy and irritating yet, at times, utterly enchanting."
"Yet these two feelings, our separation and connection to the natural world, are always in conflict, even among those who have tutored themselves to believe in one rather than the other. This seems especially true when confronted with creatures like pigeons, who aren't easy to hate and aren't easy to love, who both foul the nest and yet possess the beauty of a gray river stone, smoothed by the timeless movement of current."
I think the central question he was trying to ask is that is bad writing to one bad to others. The thesis seemed to be that some people might like your style or your certain paper. Just like the pigeons, some might not like your paper but some might see a beauty to it like the pigeon. This is what I thought the thesis was and it seems to make sense to me. The author was trying to understand that some people might not like your writing just like how some people are fans of Obama and some are not.
When you right a research paper a good method you can use are using personal experiences and observations along with facts to not bore the reader. Facts a lot of times are boring if that is all you keep reading
I never really created a research paper that has personal experiences in it and observations. In mt recent years of schooling, research papers were papers that you researched a topic in books or websites and they seemed quite boring. The pigeon essay uses the authors personal experiences and observations which makes it unlike of what I thought a reseach paper really is. I will be more interested in research if I can add my own expeirences. This way it can make the paper and research more fun, which will most likely create a better paper.
I thought I can relate or extract the message out of this essay. I am not totally sure that my assumption is correct but I think it can definitely relate. I learned a lot about pigeons reading this essay. I never really thought in depth about the pigeons and there skill to make you hate them or love them. I learned that nature will always be there and people are going to have different views on the way they look at nature.

- You have to know your thesis before you start.
- You need to follow a formal structure.
- Form matters more then content.
- You cant use the pronoun I.
- You can use your own experiences and observations as evidence.
Following a formal structure is a huge part about writing a nice paper. Papers have to be organized with transitions and right paragraph sequences. Certain paragraphs should be before or after other certain paragraphs. A formal structure also means having a intro, body, and conclusion for your paper. If we are talking about research papers you definitely have to have a formal structure.
A lot of students are too attached to the intro, body, and conclusion that they just try to put together a paper and as long as it looks good they will hand it in. This is a bad thing to do because actually this statement is "neutral" or false depending on the way you look at it. This is because form and content are really important issues and you need both to create a good paper.
Students try their best to stay away from using the word I in research papers but there are different types of research papers. With the social action research paper I think you should be allowed to use the letter I because you are doing the researcher your self in real life situations. If you doing a normal research paper with lets say your using websites to write a paper about Bill Clinton or something then you shouldnt use the word I.
Using your own evidence is fine if your doing certain research papers. My answer for this is basically the same as the before statement. Your not going to use your own evidence with writing about Bill Clinton but you will with a social action paper obviously.
Step 2
There is a big difference between facts and opinions.....I somewhat agree with this statement. Facts is information that was already proven which makes it a solidified piece of information. A opinion is just a personal opinion; it is only yours. I guess you can say that opinions are sometimes true and correct which can make them facts. This is why I somewhat agree because this has me thinking about some peoples opinions "can" be correct but I guess facts is information that has been proven. You can also say that facts are also opinions because the facts had to come from someone to start off. Very confusing statement but kinda interesting to think about.
